Local population growth propels Grand Strand area to '10 Fastest Growing Metro Areas'

The latest update comes from U.S. Census population estimates from April 2010 to July 2011; the Grand Strand area was ranked number nine just behind  Charleston with 2.6% population growth.

The third fastest growing area in the state was the Greenville area, growing at 1.8%.

The City of Myrtle Beach grew 2.11% from a population of 27,245 in 2010 and 27,820 in 2011. But the City of Myrtle Beach wasn't the only town in the area to have growth. Surfside Beach and North Myrtle Beach saw a larger amount with 2.15% and 2.13% respectfully.  Additionally, Conway saw population growth, but only at a rate of 1.93%.

The state average growth was 0.91%. Horry County grew at a pace of 2.10% during the period to an estimated 276,340 persons.
