Charleston County School Board member Brian Moody, who will complete his third term in November, has said he won't be running for a fourth one, instead recommending Chris Fraser for the spot. Fraser is a commercial real estate broker and developer and announced he will be going after one of two West Ashley seats available.
Fraser has been involved the education community around Charleston for several years. For one thing, he's served as chairman of The Education Foundation, a Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce initiative, for the past two years.
From The Post and Courier:
Moody, who's served on the board for nearly 12 years, said he'd like to run for office but his accounting firm prohibits its partners from holding elected positions.
"It's time for someone else to take over," he said.
Moody unequivocally endorsed Fraser, president of the Grubb & Ellis/Barkley Fraser firm, for his seat.
From ABC News 4:
"It was not an easy decision to not run for another term on the school board," said Moody. "But I could not think of a better person to fill this position as Chris Fraser. His devotion to improving schools in our community is apparent from his tireless work as chair of The Education Foundation and his previous experience as a member of the District 2 Constituent Board, among many other efforts."
"I am very excited for this opportunity to run for a seat on the school board," said Fraser. "There is no issue more important to our community and economy today, than improving the number and quality of graduates who enter the workforce. I have seen first hand the students in these schools and believe we need to create the best environment for these kids to grow and learn."
