City of Myrtle Beach begins 48th Ave. annexation; Leaves businesses out

The City of Myrtle Beach has targeted the hole in the city limits around 48th Avenue for annexation.

The City chose the "25% method" which only gives individual registered voters that are permanent residents in that area a voice in the matter. According to the City of Myrtle Beach Annexation Guide (PDF), the other option would have been to get petition signatures from a percentage of property owners based on the assessed value of the property they own. This particular area is mostly comprised of businesses, rental residences, and second homes. These groups also don't see benefits of the property tax cut that is funded by the 1% Toursim Development Fee sales tax.
