The Charleston Battery have announced that they've added two players to the roster.
Here's what the press release had to say about the new acquisitions:
Goalkeeper Chris McClellan and midfielder Jamie Franks come to the Battery from the USL2 Wilmington Hammerheads after Wilmington’s exit from the USL2 playoffs last weekend. Both players join the Battery pending USSF approval.
Goalkeeper Chris McClellan began his professional career with the Charlotte Eagles of the USL Second Division in 2003. A native of Boulder, CO, McClellan 6-1, 28 yrs., played three seasons with the Eagles winning the 2005 USL Championship the same year he earned the USL2 Goalkeeper of the Year award.
In 2007, McClellan signed with the Carolina Railhawks where he spent two seasons playing 57 games. Before turning pro McClellan attended Colorado Christian University.
Midfielder Jamie Franks had a solid rookie pro season with the Wilmington Hammerheads playing in 15 games and recording a goal and an assist. A native of Medford, NJ, Franks was drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft (49th overall) by Chivas USA.
Franks was a four year starter at Wake Forest University and was a member of the 2007 NCAA National Championship winning side.
The Battery have a game tonight, August 29, against the USL First Division leaders the Portland Timbers.
