PBS Golf special features The Dunes Club, airs tonight
The special, “Golf’s Grand Design” will air statewide tonight on PBS/SCETV at 9 p.m. and features Myrtle Beach's The Dunes Club.
The Dunes Club has been a Grand Strand staple since 1949 when their first nine holes were opened, those holes are currently the back nine of the courses. Robert Trent Jones Sr. was the man behind the design of The Dunes Club and according to The Sun News,
The Dunes is considered one of Jones’ masterpieces, and it is included along with other historical golf treasures such as National Golf Links of America on Long Island (N.Y.), Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx (N.Y.), Augusta National in Georgia, Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina and Bandon Dunes in Oregon.
The PBS special is about, "The history and role of golf course architecture in America, including a look at the unique relationship between the people who play the game and the places where they play. Included are interviews with course architects Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye."
Be sure to hop on over to The Sun News for their full write-up before you watch (or DVR) the PBS special.
*note: my Grandmother went to high school with Jack Nicklaus and in no way did that influence this piece :)
